Bud & Peg on the Road
July 2004

7/2

Seven Feathers RV Park – between Redding and Portland

Stopped in the Seven Feathers Casino – dry parking – and wanted to eat in the buffet, but the wait was a couple of hours, so we got a sandwich and did a little gambling.  I lost $30 on blackjack and the slots, while Peg won $116 on a $5 bill.  She thought it was only $12, but on closer inspection found that the total winnings were $121.  A big truck in the lot kept its motor running all night which made it difficult to sleep – the price of a free parking space!

7/3 – 7/4

RV Park of Portland – Portland, OR

We got here specifically so we could watch the fireworks on July 4th.  They were quite good, but not as good as some I’ve seen.  Took a couple of hours to get out of the mall parking lot.

7/5 – 7/10

Silver Lake RV Park – Mt. St. Helens, WA

This park is not real great, but ok.  We were waiting for a package from Isagenix to get there but it was late, so we stayed three extra days.  The park is a Happy Camper park, so we get to pay half price, so that wasn’t so bad.  Actually, we stayed one extra day because Peg had come down with a fever and needed the extra time to start feeling human again.  I have been working really hard on my book, editing and checking references, getting ready to get a new edition published.  I will have to update my copyright and purchase an ISBN number so that I can have a chance to put the book into the Borders or other major bookstores, which I hope to do while we are in Seattle.  While we were here, got to go up to Mt. St. Helens and visit the Visitor Centers in the area.  What a blast!  The volcano caused a lot of damage for a long way, and the effects are still obvious.  Mud flats, fallen trees, are only a couple of things we saw.  There are a lot of volcanoes in the area – the Lassen Volcano, Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Hood, Mt. Rainier, and others.  Saw Mt Hood and also went by Mt. Shasta on the way to Portland.  These are all part of the Ring of Fire of volcano activity around the Pacific Ocean.

7/10 – 7/13

Ocean Shores RV Resort – Western Horizons – Western Washington

Short trip from Mt. St. Helens area.  We took the long scenic route that was long, but not very scenic.  The park is giving us 4 days and 3 nights free for listening to their pitch trying to sell us some sort of RV parking package.  It is nice here, in the trees, near a wildlife refuge.  As we were driving around, we noticed a couple of rigs parked which had Holiday Rambler club symbols on them and Full-Timer symbols, so we parked next to them and visited.  One of the rigs will leave tomorrow, but the other will be here for a couple of days.  Not much to see or do in the area, so maybe Peg can start to feel better while we are here.

7/13 – 7/20

Lake Pleasant RV Park, Bothell, WA.  Mt. Rainier was the highlight of our total trip so far. It was beautiful!!!  It took a full day to get around half of the mountain, stopping at visitor centers and having lunch.  If any of you are ever out here, it is not to be missed.

Got to visit with friends Mary and Jaime whom we met in Tucson.  Mary served us a wonderful salmon dinner and they took us on a tour of Eastern Seattle, where Bill Gates lives along with other billionaires.  We also went on a tour of Lake Washington, which is a large lake right in the center of Seattle.  There are a lot of magnificent homes built around the lake.  The bridges for I-90 and WA 520 float on the water – the water is too deep for putting down piers to support them.  Sunday we went to the Religious Science church in Seattle.

Spent a lot of time trying to find spines for my book.  Finally located them - they are being sent to us in Sandpoint.  Just before we left, we visited Shoqualmie Falls, a pretty waterfall.

7/20 – 7/22

Riverview RV Park – Coeur D’Alene, ID. Visited Deborah and Michael Burke.  Deborah was Peg’s boss when they worked at Kaiser Permanente in Dallas; Michael is president of the North Idaho College in Coeur D’Alene.  We had a great time getting caught up with events in our lives over dinner.  Their friend Shirley Bade was there for the evening; it was nice getting to know her.

Coeur D’Alene has statues of moose all over town, decorated wildly.  I have a picture of one on the web which is decorated like Toulouse Latrec.  Funny!

There is a beautiful lake on the edge of town – the sky is so blue and the trees so green that every picture is a Kodak photo opportunity.  We are still working on our new Isagenix life style – losing weight and inches, getting ready to buy new clothes again.  I am about to run out of holes in my belt for the second time – that’s 8 holes altogether!
